Great History

Most of these Mustangs have a questionable past … NOT this one. The car was sold new in Richmond, VA at Commonwealth Ford on April 10th 1967 to its “original owner”, a Mr. Edward Thomas. The original salesman was John Whitaker who worked for Commonwealth Ford in Richmond VA. For the next 45 years this car would have only 3 adult owners, all of which fussed over and cared for the car with great respect. In 2000 the second owner treated the car to a bare metal repaint that still looks fantastic today (have photos documenting this).

The 2nd two owners always used the fastback as a second car for pleasure cruises and always kept it garaged. The original dash, interior and mechanical components are a testament to its care. All three owners have stated to one another that the mileage is original at a low 67k since new – wow! My examination of the overall car included a detailing of the engine bay in which I pulled the valve covers to see a super clean motor, removed the original date coded water pump (what are the odds), flushed the original date coded radiator and found most everything including the wiring to be as it left the factory. I rarely see them this original. Basically, the car is a SURVIVOR that has been sympathetically restored ONLY as needed (my favorite kind).

This kind of car does not come up for sale very often. It was a “keeper” for three people over the last 45 years and it will be a keeper for you.

Mechanical

It starts easily, runs very smooth and has good power, especially considering the 2.79 highway gear. The highway gear makes for great long distance drives and is much easier on the motor and you. It has no bad habits, does NOT run hot and it idles beautifully.

The engine bay is well detailed and shows very well. It has that factory correct STOCK LOOK. The entire engine bay is “super original with most of its factory installed mechanical components, including the engine, which is original to the car. The exhaust manifolds were changed out for Ford built exhaust hedders which not only sound GREAT, they and allow the 289 to really breathe.

What’s NOT working?

This car is ready to go as is and can be enjoyed immediately with complete confidence. There are 3 “option items” that are not currently working but that can be repaired while in my possession at “additional cost” and additional time. The AC is blowing, but not blowing cold (the heater is working)…the 8-Track radio is not working…the fog lamps are not wired in
